Wedding Guest Dresses for 5 Different Venues

Spring and summer wedding season is just around the corner. And chances are, you’ve RSVP’d “yes” to at least one wedding in the coming months. Call it the social media effect, but these days, brides have gotten more and more creative with their wedding receptions, especially in warmer months. City? Rustic? Coastal? Nothing is off limits. If you’ve perused your closet and can’t find a single thing to wear, allow us to intervene; we pulled wedding guest dresses for 5 common, yet gorgeous, venue types. Where to? Somewhere chic.
Ballroom

Shop: Satin Halter Dress Strapless Fit and Flare Mikado Ballgown
Time to turn up the fancy. A ballroom venue may call for a black tie dress code, and is definitely not the time for anything remotely casual. Dress to the nines in a regal satin or Mikado number. Whether it’s a ballgown, leg-baring A-line, or chic fit and flare, your look is sure to turn heads on the dance floor – and beyond.
Beach

Shop: Criss Cross Halter Glitter Lace Dress Scuba Lace Dress
Sun, sand, and sea; a beach wedding is exposed to all of the elements. Fabric and silhouette are key players here; choose a fit and flare wedding guest dress in a light fabric like scuba or crepe to stay cool. Avoid anything too tight or heavy (i.e. satin, brocade, or Mikado) so you can soak up the sun with confidence. As for shoes, opt for a dressy sandal for the easiest transition from sand to reception.
Garden

Shop: Floral Fit and Flare Floral Embroidered Dress Floral High Low Dress
There’s no denying the elegance of a garden wedding. Complement this beautiful outdoor setting with – you guessed it – a pretty floral print dress. Check out our fresh picks here, and depending on the dress code, go for a short fit and flare, midi-length high-low, or long evening dress for a more formal environment. You grow, girl.
Rooftop

Shop: Satin Halter Dress Crepe Illusion Midi Halter Pleated Party Dress
Twinkling lights, a bustling crowd below, and of course, a dazzling cityscape; a rooftop venue offers a truly unique appeal. Keep your look as sleek and sophisticated as the trendy setting; look for a slim-fitting style that shows off your curves or a shimmering party dress with an eye-catching open back.
Vineyard

Shop: Lace High Low Dress 3-D Petal Dress V-Neck Chiffon Dress
Complement the rustic, rolling hills of a vineyard wedding with a dress that isn’t too flashy, in style or color. A soft pink, blue or even fuchsia hue won’t clash with the backdrop, making for beautiful photos in your look (because trust, you’ll be snapping more than a few). Opt for an easy-breezy silhouette that’s easy to maneuver on uneven terrain. And repeat after us: block heels, block heels, block heels!

CLV x Stephanie Danielle: Dresses for Every Destination

If you were to ask us about our dream vacation, two destinations that would top the list are Paris, France, and Portofino, Italy. Both dreamy European cities offer their own unique charm; the colorful cliffs of Portofino and the urban-chic streets of Paris. So as you can guess, we were super excited to style Stephanie Danielle, fashion blogger and creator of The City Blonde, for her recent travels to these gorgeous places!

Whether you are lucky to have your own ticket booked or simply love fashion inspired by beautiful cities, continue scrolling for a look book of Stephanie’s stunning photoshoots. We also pulled a few of our own evening dress picks inspired by Paris and Portofino, so you can embody the European vibes for a destination event…or a local RSVP!

Shop: Mermaid Dress with Plunging Neckline

Shop: Satin Pleated Dress Halter Plunge Dress Flower Print Ballgown Sequin Trumpet Dress Taffeta Trumpet Dress

First up, Portofino. Stephanie popped against the picturesque Italian coastline in a red mermaid dress bearing a flattering plunge neckline and open back. The warm hue complemented the pretty colored buildings lining the village. Follow her lead and capture the essence of Portofino by selecting a style with few or no embellishments, and also doesn’t compete with the shades of the Riviera. Stick to wine, red, gold, or green in sleek fitted silhouettes. Or, if you’re feeling especially fancy (say, for a gala!) slip into a floral ball gown that’s basically its own work of art.

Oh, Paris. For the City of Light, Stephanie wore a pink high low dress adorned with elegant beading. The subtle embellishments against the silky Mikado texture feel tres chic for a picture-perfect day in Paris. (and can we talk about that Eiffel Tower backdrop for a sec?!)

Shop: Mikado Antique Beaded High Low Dress

Shop: Metallic Knit Dress Long Sleeve Dress Tank Plunge Dress Pleated Metallic Dress Long Sleeve 3-D Dress
Parisian fashion is all about minimalist style with an element of surprise; think classic, unfussy silhouettes bearing 3-D florals or sleeves lined in pearls. Unlike the poppy shades of Portofino, for Paris stick to neutral hues; black, white, navy, or even a soft rose pink. Effortless elegance, right this way.

Whether you’re jetting across the Atlantic or driving one town over, we’ve got dresses for every destination. Shop cocktail dresses and long evening dresses for any occasion now!
Happy travels!

The Complete Style Guide for 7 Wedding Dress Codes

So you’re invited to a wedding (yay!) But you have zero clue on what to wear (ugh). The first step is to look at the invitation, but it says…black tie optional? What does that even mean? Is it less fancy than black tie? Are short dresses acceptable? Ugh, why do dress codes even exist??
Girl, we understand the struggle. Whether you need to brush up or are already up to code, scroll below for our crash course on wedding dress codes, plus exactly what to wear for each. On your mark, get set, decode.
White Tie

Shop: Satin Off Shoulder Rhinestone Waist Ballgown
Oh you fancy, huh? A white tie dress code is as formal as it gets, meaning a long evening dress is mandatory (no minis in sight!) Get swept up in glam with a gorgeous satin off the shoulder ballgown in pretty emerald. Don’t forget the jewelry; try chandelier earrings and a rhinestone bracelet to match the elegant waistband.
Black Tie

Shop: Off the Shoulder Split V Studded Side Jersey Dress
Chances are you’ve heard of this one before! A black tie dress code is common for an evening event, so dress to the nines in a sophisticated gown with pretty embellishments, like this fitted off the shoulder style. And bonus: the beaded panels on the sides make your curves look fire.
Black Tie Optional

Shop: Strapless Cuff Front Slit Dress
A step down from black tie, black tie optional is more about the men’s dress code, so simply read this as a typical black tie event. You can, however go a bit easier on the embellishments and opt for a simpler style; this strapless red slit dress is subtle yet still makes a statement. Plus, the leg slit shows off a killer pair of heels.
Cocktail

Shop: Two Tone Lace Off The Shoulder Scuba Tiered Dress
No need to go as fancy as a gown here; a cocktail invite = a short, chic style. Keep your dress up to code by choosing one with elegant detailing, like lace or beading. This navy two tone fit and flare is a perfect match.
Beach Formal

Shop: V-Neck Petal Embroidered Trumpet Dress
Ahh, sun, sand, and sea. For a wedding in the elements, choosing a dress that’s breathable and non-constricting is key. A flowy gown bearing 3-D florals and an illusion skirt transitions seamlessly from sunny shore to ceremony under the stars. Pair it with fancy flats for day and heels for night.
Semi-Formal

Shop: Off Shoulder Satin Dress
Semi-formal means finding a happy medium between formal and casual. This style does just that; the black bodice keeps it simple while the satin skirt adds a dose of dressy. Now where’s the dance floor?!
Daytime

Shop: Scuba Halter X-Side Dress
Because it may take place entirely outside, a daytime wedding has the most laid back dress code of all. But this isn’t the time to pull out the jeans and shorts-remember, it’s still a wedding! A sundress or simple solid style like this halter fit and flare effortlessly complements a day event.

These Patriotic Hues are Perfect for Summer

With summer officially kicked off, it’s time to shift your mindset from homework and hectic schedules to beaches and bronzer. And whether you’re hanging poolside or have a fun event to attend, the thought of What should I wear? has surely popped into your mind. While we can’t vouch for poolside style, you know we’ve got your back for a formal or semi-formal event. July 4th may have come and gone, but we’re still feelin’ red, white, and blue. Ready to enter and exit with a bang? From a black tie wedding to a semi-formal graduation dinner, these long and short dresses will add some chic to your weekend.

Shop: Cleo Neck Fit and Flare Dress
Lace Tiered Dress Sweetheart Skater Dress
So which patriotic hue should you do? Warm complexions like olive and dark skin tones look awesome in red, while blue suits cool tones, like a fair complexion with blue eyes. And we love a white dress because it’s universally flattering on everyone! But this is fashion after all; if a specific color is calling, forget the rules and just do you. After all, the very best accessory is confidence.

Shop: One Shoulder Dress Lace Corset Dress Glitter Trumpet Dress
Sizzle like a firecracker in a satin or glitter shortie, or opt for a halter jersey dress for a more minimal finish. If the dress code calls for black tie attire, glam up in a long evening dress bearing an off the shoulder, spaghetti strap, or tank neckline. Embellishments serve as their own accessory, but let the setting determine how dressy to go. A ballroom affair? Full-body beading brings the perfect amount of glitz. An outdoor party? Try a pared down silhouette, like a red crepe style, to avoid looking overdressed. And just a reminder: no white for weddings! (but you knew that, right?)
Wherever you’re headed this summer, there’s a dress for that! Shop short evening dresses and long evening dresses by Camille La Vie.
